The Rapid Motor Vehicle Company was founded in Pontiac, Michigan, in 1902 by the famous Grabowsky Brothers. It was formed after the brothers had introduced their famous one-ton truck in 1900 and was quite successful till 1911, when General Motors (GM) acquired Reliance and Rapid Company and merged them both to form the GMC Division of General Motors.
It is said that the first GMC logo appeared way back in 1912 at the New York Auto Show. At that time, the trucks were Rapid and Reliance manufactured with the GMC brand logo applied.
